Calves

Calves are officially defined as young bovines under 14 weeks of age.

The nutrition, health and well being of  a  pregnant cow will have a major influence on the health of the newly born calf. Next, is adequate quantity colostrum and its no good in the cows udder or in a bucket, it must be got into the calf. The calf must recieve 6 pints of quality colostrum within 6 hours of birth. After that period the calves ability to absorb immunoglobulins decreases very quickly and virtually disapears by 24 hours of age.

Calves must be kept in a clean draught free, dry environment. The calves navel must be disinfected also.
