The Irish Holstein Friesian Association (IHFA) is responsible for the validity and upkeep of the Holstein Friesian herdbook and for giving direction to the development and promotion of the breed in Ireland through its many events and services.  The association offers a grade- up service, whereby commercial dairy cows can be graded to full pedigree in three simple steps.  IHFA also offers a Type Classification service to it's members and to all dairy farmers through Linear Scoring of daughters of AI bulls and cows.  The Linear scoring system is the road map as to the type of cow that suits the farming system.  Taking Linear Scores in conjunction with the EBI sub Indexes helps the farmer make more informed decisions and better choices in regards to bull selection.
